The Gnoo Blas Circuit opened in 1953 and closed in 1962. It was a triangular street circuit on the outskirts of Orange, 33/4 miles in length. During its time it was recognised as the fastest track in the country, with a lap record of 105mph, 15% faster than nearby Mt Panorama. That record was set by Reg Hunt in 1956, in a Maserati.

In a piece celebrating its 40th anniversary, Modern Motor described Gnoo Blas like this:

Only by seeing it can you appreciate the challenge of riding this monster, unfenced and girt by trees, over crests and broken edges and a bridge barely six metres wide. Only by driving down the 2.4km Hospital Straight can you appreciate the courage of defying the looming Wind Sock Corner to nail a Flying Eighth-Mile at 162mph, as Hunt did in his Maserati.

There is as much to be learnt from walking an old track as driving it. Brandy Corner underscores this. The only part of the circuit no longer open to the public or upgraded with modern hotmix, it obliges you to walk on all that remains of the original surface: thin, coarse, broken and, despite the lichen, brutal.
