Holden Bag

Details

You may have seen a photo of a "Holden Bag" belonging to Bob Butler of the NSW Club at a recent meeting. Well here is the story.

Picture 1 shows the original bag which was made by Denzil Don Pty Ltd, 390 Lygon Street, Brunswick, Vic. for Holden. They came in all the 2 tone interior colours that were available for the FE and were made from the same "Elascofab" material. The price was 30 shillings.

Picture 2 shows the new bag as released in August 1958 for the FC. The new bag is the one that Bob Butler has and was made by Andrews Leather Products Pty Ltd. 560 Anzac Parade, Kingsford, NSW. It is 13.5 inches long by 9 inches high. (They are slightly smaller than the Denzil Don bag). The new bag was not only sold by Holden dealerships, but was available in leading departmental stores according to the article in "Pointers" magazine. Price for these bags was 29 shillings and 11 pence.

The bags were also available for Vauxhall, Pontiac and Chevrolet.

This article is available at the kind permission of Mark Diehm who owns the magazines. Hopefully we will see a few more articles over the next year from these rare magazines.
