Hi all   my FE be out of the paint shop next week and the reasembly starting. i was wondering if anyone has some tips re. fitting new rubbers. I was wondering mostly about the door rubbers were they go over the hinges, what is the easiest way to get them in the correct position? Any  advise about fitting any rubbers most welcome   Thanks Dave

Dave, either trim the rubbers where they go over the hinges or use original rubber sections and glue into the new rubbers

There is a product sold by Rares (in Adelaide at least) called Rubber Magic, get some before installing the rubbers and use as directed once you have finished the job. I have used it to get the rubbers to settle properly as have many others and never heard a bad report, saves a lot of heartache by getting the rubbers to "comply" when closing the doors and the boot.

Also I always put the joint at the top 90 deg corner of the body, cut at 45 deg and supper glued together and then I glue  the corner in to the car, I do this last after the rest of the rubber is glued in to get the correct length I don't glue the 12" each side of the joint till after the joint with super glue has set..Makes for a very neat joint much better looking than a butt joint  ........FC427......

Ken's suggestion of using the original rubber sections over the hinges won't work in my case - the rubbers are shot to hell. I understand that I'll have to trim the back off the Rare's rubbers to fit over over the hinges.

I notice on many cars that the new seals protrude between the top of the front mudguards and the doors where the body panel rolls over (if you get what I mean).

How does the rubber need to be trimmed to prevent this happening?

I just cut the rubber in this section and glued in a different profile that is much closer to the factory one. Works perfectly.

You should do the same over the hinges. If your rubbers are that bad maybe someone can post some pictures of what a factory rubber looks like in these areas.

I thought you would have got a few more pictures from some of the other 2500 members  Roll Eyes

The build pics are of Fast Eddies wagon. There's a thread in members cars area.

Car is expected to be completed by the 2024 FE - EK Nationals (combined event due to rust increasing because of global warming)

Or maybe I'll set up a U Store It at Birdsville so everybody can park in a rust-free zone in a dry and (what may then be) a very, very, very hot climate.
